Heritage Baptist Church

Children's Ministry

Jesus loves the little children and so do we!
Our goal is to provide a safe, caring environment, allowing children to flourish in God’s love.  We strive to provide a foundation upon which they can build happy, centered lives, teaching values that will carry through to adulthood.

Nursery - (Sundays from 9:15 AM to end of worship service)

Newborns to age 2 are cared for by our experienced Nursery Coordinator Amy Henry and a group of caring volunteers.  Our nursery is bright and welcoming, with all the baby equipment needed for infants, along with toys and developmental activities to help toddlers play and learn.  The Nursery is open every Sunday and Wednesday during church activities.

Bible Venture Sunday School  (Sundays from 9:15 - 10:15 AM)

Children in Kindergarten to fifth grade explore the foundational stories in the Bib

Mid-Week Recharge

Wednesdays @ 5:45 PM, September - May

Guess what day it is?????

Wednesday nights at HBC are the best way to celebrate Hump Day.  Everyone needs a mid-week recharge, and children are no exception.

At 5:45 pm, guests sit down for a family dinner in the church fellowship hall. If you are a first-time guest, dinner is on us. After that, dinner costs are $1 for preschool, $2 for children under 12 and $6 for adults, with a maximum family cost of $15.

We have plenty of high chairs and booster seats for the little ones. The menu changes each week, but being familiar with the picky palates of little ones, we make every effort to accommodate a variety of tastes.

When dinner is over at 6:30 pm, adults recess to the chapel, while the little ones begin a time of age appropriate activity and play.

The evening ends at 7:15, just in time to take your tired little ones home for bath and bed.

HBC Hump Day- you don't cook dinner, you enjoy adult conversation AND your kids have a fantastic play date.  Win/Win/Win!

If you plan on joining us Wednesdays, please call the church office at 410.263.6680 to make dinner reservations. See you there!

Events for Families

Throughout the calendar year, Heritage hosts a variety of family activities. One night each month, Rev. Skye Hallman leads Family Fun Night, which could be a movie, game night or cookout.  Holidays are filled with family fun with our Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Vacation Bible School, Fall Fun Fest and Christmas Living Nativity. See the church calendar for upcoming events.
First Friday of Every Month

"Faith Steps"  - (Sundays from 9:15-10:15 AM)

Children ages 2-5 need stability and repetition to help them learn.  Our dedicated teachers have years of ex
perience working with this age group.  Each Sunday, preschoolers learn about God through stories, crafts and play.  Snack is offered.

Children during Worship
Heritage children are involved in many aspects of our Sunday worship service- as candle-lighters, readers or ushers. However, we know that sitting still for an hour is challenging for even the best behaved young one. With that in mind, we offer nursery care for infants-2 years, extended session care for 2-5 year olds and children's church for 1st-5th graders.

Note: there is no children's church (1st-5th graders) on the first Sunday of the month to allow young ones to watch or take part in the Lord's Supper (communion).

Extended Session

(Sundays, 10:15 AM to the end of worship service) While the grownups are in the sanctuary for Sunday worship service, children from 2-5 years old are taking part in play, exploration and fun in our brightly decorated classrooms. Our awesome teachers lead these young ones in Bible stories, songs and a variety of activity.

Faith Quest

(Children's Church)

Faith Quest Children's Church is an energy-filled, creative way for school age children to hear and understand God's Word. Each Sunday (except for the 1st Sunday of the month) children from kindergarten through 3rd grade are led from the sanctuary, following the scripture reading to the Blue Room for worship and activity geared toward their way of learning. One week they might see a Bible skit with costumed volunteer actors, while the next week they might conduct a science experiment linked to a scripture concept.  It's all about creativity, movement and God!

If you are new to our church, and would like your child (kindergarten through 3rd grade) to take part in Faith Quest, welcome! Immediately after worship is over, you may exit through those same doors the children exited to the Blue Room where your child will be waiting to share his adventure with you!

*The first Sunday of each month, Heritage celebrates the Lord's Supper. There is no Faith Quest on this Sunday. We invite families to participate in this as a teachable moment for children.  If you'd like more information on discussing Communion with your child, please contact Rev. Skye Hallman Skye@heritagebaptistannapolis.org
